From a Modest Beginning Emerged the East Carolina University
East Carolina University began its life as a teacher training school, It was founded in 1907 to alleviate the shortage of teachers at that time.
From its demure beginning has emerged a national research university where 23.000 students are enrolled.
The East Carolina University now supplies its nation with some of the best educators and its programs are of high distinction in health care and the fine performing arts.
Today the East Carolina offers 106 bachelors station programs, 71 masters degree programs and four authority degree programs.
It also offers one first professional MD program and sixteen doctoral programs in its professional colleges and schools, the Thomas Harriot College of Arts and Sciences and the Brody School of Medicine.

Graduates of the College of Education occupy been recognized as Teachers of the Year at local, state, and national levels and distance education programming in the College of Education has grown by 30 percent for four consecutive years.
The Brody School of Medicine at ECU is ranked fifth in the nation in rural medicine by U.S. News & World Report and East Carolina prepares added nursing and allied health professionals in North Carolina than any other university in the state.
Surgeons at ECU train physicians from around the area to perform robotic cardiac mitral valve move procedures.
East Carolina’s observable and performing arts programs are among the largest and most prestigious on the East Coast. The College of Fine Arts and Communication hosts hundreds of state performances and gatherings all year through its professional concert series and the School of Theatre and Dance offers multiple productions of plays, musical theatre, and dance concerts throughout the year in McGinnis Theatre.
